Best dressed: 2012 Met Ball

Ashley Greene stunned in a Grecian Donna Karan Atelier gown that was designed especially for her. The gown featured silk chiffon pleats that wrapped around a stone encrusted sequinned bustier. We love the subtle drape at the shoulder which adds a hint of movement!

Lily Collins channelled a bit of Snow White off-screen in a sheer Valentino number. While the romantic lace look may not be everyone’s first pick, she pulls it off with fuss free hair and make-up, highlighting her delicate facial features.

Emily Blunt proves that less is definitely more, keeping it simple and chicin a body-hugging, cut-out Calvin Klein. The bright baby pink number was a great modern touch and stood out against her dark shoulder length bob, while a silver clutch and bracelet added the perfect amount of bling.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley shimmered and sparkled in a black and copper drape back Burberry tulle dress. The look was modest and was accentuated by a sleek bun pulled high on her head. Some bronze Irene Neuwirth earrings, a J/Hadley oval tiger ring, and Harlow 1960 clutch completed the look.

Best Dressed: The 84th Annual Academy Awards

Emma Stone may have kicked off some major deja vu for those who remember Nicole Kidman’s crimson Balenciaga number in 2007, but still managed to hold her own in a fushcia Giambattista Valli gown. A slick bun toned down the drama along with some Louis Vuitton jewelry.

Gwyneth Paltrow was sleek and chic in Tom Ford, donning a stark white dress with a cape detail. She kept things pristine- skipping a neck-piece or earrings in favour of a wide diamond cuff and an ornate statement ring.

Angelina Jolie served up some well-toned leg in Atelier Versace, complete with a thigh-high slit. The bombshell finished her look with some red lipstick, and by leaving her hair down, proves that it’s not what you wear that matters, but how.

Cameron Diaz’s nude cascading Gucci dress showed off her toned upper body, shining with gold beading a matching collar necklace. Keeping true to her effortless style, she wore her bob straight and slightly toussled, while pale makeup kept things on the softer side.

Who: Ryan Reynolds

One of tinseltown’s biggest hunks and leading men, we don’t think this one really needs much of an introduction. You’ve seen him with guns blazing as Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity, and woo the hearts of many (on and off screen) in rom-coms such as Definitely, Maybe and The Proposal. His next big flick is the action thriller Safe House, opposite Denzel Washington.

What: Ah, cardigans. Call it a fetish if you will, but when men get it right with this simple wardrobe number, it’s just joyous. Behold the prime example above, slung over a collared shirt and paired with dress pants for the more fancy of occasions (aka The Today Show). We love the coordination of soft grays combining for a look that is both classy and seemingly effortless. For some depth to the ensemble, opt for textured pieces like Ryan-soft stripes or meshed finishes work well.

Who: Julianne Hough

Whether you know her for her winning streak on Dancing with the Stars, Ryan Seacrest or simply her ridiculously bangin’ bod, this actress, ballroom dancer and country singer starred most recently as Ariel Moore in the 2011 remake of Footloose. Catch her in the upcoming revamp of Broadway musical Rock of Ages.

What: Whether you’re seeing them for the first time or taking a trip back to 1984, there’s no denying the joy of the Red Cowboy Boots, made famous by Lori Singer. As one of the critical fashion statements of the 80s, it was a pleasure to see them back on the big screen, along with Daisy Duke short shorts and on the sweeter side, everyone’s favourite country-girl skirts. Julianne channels some southern charm with a flirty tank tucked into a lacey white number, finished with a chunky belt and ankle boots.

Who: Tyler Posey

It’s hard to gain a good impression of child stars as adults, given the 21st Century’s bleak circumstances. Lindsay Lohan, anybody? But remember this little cutie from Maid in Manhattan? All grown up with a variety of TV roles behind him, you know Tyler Posey best as puppy-eyed Scott Mcall on MTV’s Teen Wolf. Look out for his starring role in the upcoming film, White Frog.

What: Monochromatics- the simple yet slightly risque solution to making yourself look longer and leaner. Style Yourself says to “add lots of texture for visual variety”, and Tyler certainly is taking a page out of that book. With a casual rolled-up chambray button-up, faded grey jeans and grey suede Vans, the teen wolf himself not only shows off a much fresher take on the Texas tuxedo, but manages to rock one of the most drab colours in existence with such ease and confidence, we wonder why all guys didn’t think of it sooner.

Who: Kate Middleton

When Kate Middleton walked down the aisle to wed Prince William, her dress was one of the most anticipated fashion moments of the year. Ever since that unforgettable McQueen gown, the Duchess of Cambridge has proved that she’s indeed one to watch in the world of style. We don’t even know where to start!

What: We love Kate simply for the fact that she really is the people’s princess, choosing to dress as any of us would whilst looking classic and timeless. One of the first outfits the Duchess put on following her wedding was a pleated dress by Zara, proving that she really is a highstreet girl at heart. She paired the blue frock with a braided belt, cropped black jacket and wedges by LK Bennett, known to have also made an appearance at her wedding rehearsal. Check out Vogue’s write-up of Kate’s style here: http://www.vogue.co.uk/spy/celebrity-photos/2011/06/07/style-file—-catherine-duchess-of-cambridge/gallery

Who: Hunter Parrish

He may be a sexed-up rebel on Showtime’s pot dramedy Weeds, but in reality, Hunter Parrish is the type of guy you would want to bring home to your parents. Going from high school bully in 17 Again to son of Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin in It’s Complicated, Hunter’s no stranger to the big-screen- and he’s also got the vocal chops to boot! Catch him in the Broadway revival of the 70s musical, Godspell.

What:  Whether you’re dressing for a day on or off campus, you can never go wrong with some collegiate-inspired gear. And by that, we don’t mean simply branding the name of your preferred institution across your chest in sweats. Go for some preppy sophistication by layering over your day-to-day cardigans and sweaters with something hip and different. Hunter wears a corduroy suit by Claiborne, by John Bartlett.

Want to opt for the simple? More often than not, the addition of one great, simple piece to everyday wear- take above’s wool duffel coat -will suffice. And you can never go wrong with a university scarf.

You’re Welcome.
“We see guys wearing their tie bar too high or too low all the time. The rule is simple: It goes between the third and fourth buttons of your dress shirt.”—GQ creative director Jim Moore.
But that’s not all. More tie bar tips here.

Who: Emma Stone

Charming us with fun-loving and quirky roles in films like Easy A and Crazy, Stupid, Love, Emma Stone has rapidly built herself one heck of a career in Hollywood, and her equally impressive sartorial resume is one that hasn’t been easy to skip past, either! Keep an eye out for her as Gwen Stacey in upcoming blockbuster The Amazing Spiderman, alongside Andrew Garfield.

What: While we remain a huge fan of Emma’s show-stopping red carpet ensembles, we believe that there’s something to be said about her more subdued choices, too. Pictured above, Emma opts for a casually sophisticated look with a sheer tank by L’Agence, tucked into a printed skirt by Sachin + Babi. The silk geometric overlays add interest and depth to the mini whilst allowing Emma’s flawless pins to take centre stage. Finally, the short flirty number is proportionately balanced with a 3/4 sleeved motorcycle jacket and nude suede pumps.
